This great guy is a poultry farmer who has just expanded his business with 100 new chickens. But he needs a loan to build a new shed, so he currently keeps the chickens in the bedroom. The passion and perseverance of the many Zimbabwean smallholder farmers who keep going despite challenging conditions and limited funds is truly inspiring. For the past year, QVARTZ has been working with The Zimbabwe Agricultural Development Trust (ZADT), a non-profit organisation that manages funds to recover, develop and improve the smallholder farming sector.
“In the next 5 years, I want ZADT to be the first choice for new innovative funding, enabling smallholder farmers to grow and step out of a vicious lending circle”, says Naa Aku, chairperson of the Board of Trustees for ZADT. “It is easy to dream big, but I think what QVARTZ has done is to help us stay close to our core business and communicate that. I am very impressed by the high quality of the process and the facilitation of our very diverse set of ideas and different thinking into a coherent story and narrative”.
At QVARTZ, we are happy to follow ZADT’s work so closely and very excited to see what the future holds for our friends in Zimbabwe.
