Boutique consultancies just open more doors

Why enter strategy consulting? A recent article by former consultant Richard Rosser discusses this topic against the backdrop of over 20,000 ex-consultants’ preferences. The main reason is found to be “to open doors”: to have more opportunities in different industries post-advisory.

A somewhat surprising find is that it is not the traditional brands that “open doors to most industries” – instead, it is the smaller strategy boutiques. Among the potential drivers behind this trend are: the type of work you are exposed to and the rate at which you are expected to specialise, resulting in access to a limited amount of industries.
