Maersk has decided to tell the story of how Maersk Oil and Maersk Drilling use new means and new platforms to reach their global target audience. QVARTZ’s communication and marketing strategy practice supported Maersk in developing an innovative concept. The solution is a freely distributed and social media-integrated real time strategy game unfolding in the relatively unknown universe of oil exploration.
With their subsurface gaming experience Quest for Oil, Maersk draws upon Maersk Oil and Maersk Drilling’s vast experiences of the high-tech oil industry to open the virtual doors to the adventurous, unknown universe of oil exploration, testing strategic and practical skills to the outmost. On June 10, 2013, Maersk invited the world to embark on a challenging journey underground with the worldwide launch of the real time strategic computer game Quest for Oil.In a unique online gaming environment, Maersk takes the gamer on a quest for one of today’s most indispensable resources – oil. The gamer embarks on a subsurface journey, exploring the underground and getting to the heart of the world’s vital and challenging business: the oil industry. Quest for Oil is the first game of its kind and with the convergence of forces, innovation and technology.
